The Campaign to Cancel Kol Nidre with Cantor Hinda Eisen Labovitz
Kol Nidre, the crown-jewel of the High Holy Day season that ushers in Yom Kippur, has not been as beloved throughout history as contemporary Jews might think. In the mid-19th century, there was a concerted campaign to excise it from the Ashkenazi/Eastern European liturgy.
Why? And if so, why does it remain such a prominent moment of our High Holy Days?
Once we’ve identified the problems of this text, how can we, today, reconcile this ancient text with our modern-day experience?
While each session is independent, please join Cantor Labovitz for the entire series.
