Bereavement Support
Comforting Our Members in Times of Loss
OKC is launching a new volunteer group for bereavement support, connecting those in our community who have suffered a loss with other OKC members.
After shiva (seven days of mourning) and shloshim (first month of loss) often people around the bereaved can return to their regular routines and forget that mourners have suffered a profound loss.
Calls and messages remind mourners that their loved one and their loss have not been forgotten. This outreach is a way to ensure that no one in our community is isolated or needs resources we can help provide.
Volunteers are assigned to individual members and commit to making a brief call to check in once a month. Volunteers must be over 25 and will receive training on making the calls and possible follow up referrals.
The bereaved in our community are not required to participate in this program and receive calls; they can decide whether to opt in and terminate subsequent calls at any time. Calls will commence two months after their loss, and the program continues for the full year of mourning.
To discuss volunteering, learn more about the program or request to be on the call list, please contact Paula Shoyer or Jan Feldman at BereavementSupport@OhrKodesh.org.
