Instructor: Richard Friedman
This class focuses on the text of the Talmud -- what it says and how it says it. Discussions are lively, and range from legal details to the theology of commandments. All questions are fair; no belief is assumed except that study of Torah is worthwhile. Texts are in Hebrew/Aramaic and English. Participants include people who have studied Talmud before and people who have not.
As of late March, 2019, the class is at Shabbat 74b, beginning passages that will discuss the m'lachot (method of workmanship) of shearing wool, tying knots, and sewing stitches.
