Teshuvah and (Im)perfection with Rabbi Micha'el Rosenberg
Wednesday, September 17, 8:00 pm on Zoom
One way of thinking about teshuvah is as a process of refinement moving towards self-perfection. Yet, for many, the very notion of perfection is an impediment to self-improvement; every time we aim for perfection and fail, we come to doubt the very possibility of improvement. What role can perfection play in the process of teshuvah, and especially during this season of repentance? Is it possible to latch on to the goal of perfection without falling victim to its discouraging effects?
Pregnant with Possibility: Waiting, Hoping, and Acting in the New Year with Rabbi Avi Strausberg
Thurday, September 18, 8:00 pm
Salzberg Family Library
Rosh Hashanah is described in our liturgy as Hayom Harat Olam—“Today the world is conceived.” This evocative image frames the new year not as a moment of completion, but of beginning, gestation, and waiting. In this session, we’ll explore the spiritual posture of hope and expectation through the metaphor of pregnancy, asking: What does it mean to wait with faith? When is waiting an act of trust—and when does hope call us to act? Together we’ll study sources from liturgy and from hasidut to reflect on how we might enter the new year attuned to the rhythms of waiting, the urgency of hope, and the courage to act.
