Saturday, March 4, 2023 11 Adar 5783

7:30 PM - 9:30 PMCohen Chapel

The program is over, but you can see the lecture here.

OKC welcomes scholar Rabbi Gordon Tucker, Vice Chancellor for Religious Life and Engagement at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America for a Havdalah reception and special lecture: Remembering Heschel and King, 50 Years Later.

Abraham Joshua Heschel, whose 50th Yahrzeit has just been observed, was both a scholarly theologian and an activist. Although those two roles can sometimes seem quite disparate, they were in fact intimately connected with each other for Heschel. Rabbi Tucker invites us to explore how that connection led to Heschel's involvement in the struggle for civil rights and against racism in the U.S., in which Heschel forged an intellectual and spiritual connection with Martin Luther King Jr. We will also see Heschel's commitments reflected in his work on behalf of Soviet Jews, for reconciliation with the Christian world, and against the war in Vietnam.

Babysitting provided. Please contact Rabbi Glazer at rabbiglazer@ohrkodesh.org.
