8:00 pm: This year's Rottenberg Lecture, in honor of Murray Rottenberg, is hosting Gila Fine, a lecturer of rabbinic literature at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies who explores the Talmud through philosophy, literary criticism, psychoanalysis, and pop-culture.

On Friday night, she will lead The Madwoman in the Rabbi’s Attic: The Tale of Yalta the Shrew in the Chapel. Why are shrews always so vicious? How did the ancient world view the difference between the male and female body? And what possessed Yalta to smash 400 bottles of her husband’s wine? Gila will talk about the Talmudic tale of Yalta, and read through Aristotle and Aelian, William Shakespeare and William Congreve, Washington Irving and Charles Dickens, Charlotte Brontë and Jean Rhys.

Gila will be leading two more Rottenberg Lecture sessions on Shabbat! More details HERE.

Out of respect for our speaker, we will not be livestreaming the lectures. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope you can join us in person for the communal learning
