All roads seem to lead from Caldwell, New Jersey to Chevy Chase, Maryland - there are several of us who have migrated this route! Finish out the weekend with Cantor Joel Caplan, Rabbi Cantor Shoshi Levin Goldberg, and Cantor Hinda Eisen Labovitz, for a harmony-filled evening with lots of surprises, and some special guests.

Cantor Joel Caplan grew up in Iowa City, IA, and since 1982 has served as cantor of Congregation Agudath Israel, Caldwell, NJ, where Cantor Labovitz and Cantor Rabbi Levin Goldberg were stduents. Among many other things, he has led multiple choirs over decades for adults, teens and children, and Cantor Hinda Labovitz sang in three of those while growing up in that congregation.  Cantor Caplan has created choral arrangements of more than 100 Jewish songs, and has toured Europe and America as part of the Zamir Chorale of Boston, singing and playing clarinet (Cantor Labovitz sang with this group also).   Cantor Caplan has taught refuseniks in Moscow, sung in Israel to raise morale during the Iraqi Scud attacks, brought teens to sing in Israel during an Intifada (yep, also with Cantor Labovitz), served on the staff of Camp Ramah, the staff of the North American Jewish Choral Festival, and since 1994 has taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary’s H.L. Miller Cantorial School in New York City. He and his wife, Nancy, are proud parents and grandparents.

Cantor Rabbi Shoshi Levin Goldberg is the cantor of Temple Israel Center of White Plains, NY. She has a Masters degree in Sacred Music from the Jewish Theological Seminary where she was ordained as cantor in 2018 and received a second ordination as a rabbi in 2020. She has had a wide range of cantorial and educational experience including at B’nai Jeshurun, Shaare Zedek, Mechon Hadar, Camp Ramah Nyack, and Westchester Jewish Center.
