Tashlich & Picnic Dinner (BYO) with Rabbi Helfand
Monday, September 26, 2022 • 1 Tishrei 5783
6:15 PM - 8:00 PMParking Lot Tent + Rock Creek ParkThis ceremony, called Tashlich, which means “cast-off,” is symbolic of renewal, self-growth, and self-purification.
On the afternoon of the first day of Rosh Hashanah (or on the second day if the first day falls on a Sabbath) Jews gather at a body of water to empty their pockets and recite prayers, including the verse from the Book of Micah (7:19), “And you will cast [ve-tashlich] all of your sins into the depths of the sea.”
It’s a sweet personal and communal ritual to shake off our sins and “caste” them and our bread into the stream as we begin our new year.
Please join us at 5:30 pm for a family service, followed by Tashlich, and then stay for a BYO (bring your own) picnic.
