A Message to Parents

Welcome to the Alvin Browdy Religious School at Ohr Kodesh Congregation! At ABRS, we are committed to shepherding each child on a journey toward committed and informed Jewish adulthood in the context of the larger society in which they live.

In our growing school, we focus on Hebrew decoding and reading skills, knowledge and confidence in tefillah, and Judaic learning that invites students to question, make meaning, and create a personal connection to our tradition. We look for opportunities to grow community within our classes, among our families, and with the larger Ohr Kodesh congregation.

We appreciate that making the choice of religious education for your child can be challenging. Whether you’re considering day school, other religious schools, delaying the start of religious education until your child is ready, or ready to sign up for ABRS, Ohr Kodesh is here to support your family with recommendations and resources to fit your needs.

In the 2024-25 school year, some of the program elements that we are especially looking forward to include a renewed focus on middot (behavior attributes for living a good life), monthly elective choices for all ages, and leveled Hebrew instruction on Sunday mornings. We're also excited to welcome back our specialists, Raviv, Dana, and Laila, to enrich our time together with music, art, and Israel education.

We can’t wait to see you! As you are making your decisions about religious school in the coming year, don’t hesitate to reach out to me or to any members of the Ohr Kodesh’s clergy or leadership team to help you make your decision.

In friendship,

Wilhelmina Gottschalk
