Answers to your High Holidays Questions

Details on OKC's High Holidays   Services, Programs & Activities

What will High Holidays Services look like this year?

Ohr Kodesh is offering three options for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services: In-Person (Indoor and Outdoor locations) and Livestreaming, for those participating remotely.

To provide the most connected worship experience, OKC clergy will move between and participate in all services, throughout the High Holidays.

As always, the health and safety of our congregants is our highest priority and changes may need to be made depending on local conditions and policies. The OKC Health Committee is closely monitoring CDC Guidelines and MD and Montgomery County COVID 19 rates, and we will adjust High Holiday plans accordingly, if necessary.  OKC's COVID Guidelines for High Holidays are HERE.

What are the Services Schedules and Options?

What are the COVID protocols at OKC Services?
We are thrilled that so many members of the OKC community are fully vaccinated and we also recognize that COVID-19 is still here. We are requiring masks for everyone 2 years and over and limiting the capacity of service attendance, to allow for social distancing. Complete details of OKC's High Holidays COVID Policies and Protocols are HERE.

How do I get confirmation for In-Person Services & Seat Assignments?

Everyone who is registered for In-Person Services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur will receive an email with their High Holidays Confirmation & Entry Pass. A copy of this information is required for each person to gain entry to services. Print one copy per person and bring it with you to OKC to present when you arrive.

Each person will need to present their High Holidays Confirmation & Entry Pass, each day.

I want to attend Services remotely, via Live Stream. What do I need to do?

For those most comfortable participating via Live Stream, all Ohr Kodesh Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services can be accessed remotely.

Instructions for setting up Live Stream for Shabbat and Jewish Holidays -  allowing viewing without violating Jewish Law - are HERE.

What happens if I change my mind about which service I want to attend?
Due to health and security considerations, during the holiday you will not be able to change your registered assigned service location during or between services. Should you need to change your assigned service between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we will do our best to provide additional service options. Please contact Jerry Kiewe, Executive Director at for assistance.

I’m not currently a member of OKC. Can I register to attend High Holiday Services?
Yes, non-members are welcome to attend any Ohr Kodesh High Holiday services. Please complete the Seat Reservation Form.                                              If you are a member of another synagogue and you would like to use reciprocity please complete the Reciprocity Form HERE or contact our Executive Director, Jerry Kiewe at

Do members need to pay for High Holiday Services?

Babysitting during Kol Nidre or Neilah is an additional charge and must be pre-registered. Registration is located in the Youth Services FormThere will be NO Walk-Ins.

How do I hear Rabbi Helfand speak?
Rabbi Helfand will be giving a D’var Torah in many of the services we are providing during the High Holidays at Ohr Kodesh. All High Holiday services being provided will be robust and enjoyable for all in attendance. After the conclusion of each holiday, Rabbi Helfand’s sermons will be made available on the website and shared through OKC email.

I’m confused. Where do I go and Who do I ask for help?
