B’nai Mitzvah
A Time for Celebration
Adding another "link in the chain" of our Jewish community brings us all great pleasure. We are grateful for each and every young person who becomes a B'nai Mitzvah at Ohr Kodesh.
We wish you and your family all the best...health, joy, and fulfillment...on this very special occasion in your lives. Everyone at OKC looks forward to celebrating with you!
Mitzvah Scholars Programs
The Mitzvah Scholars program emerged from the desire of Ohr Kodesh rising b'nai mitzvah families for more cohort and community building programs.
Parents approached us to request a more formal program than we had before, which would be educational, provide opportunities for parent-and-child conversations, and increase interactions with our clergy and educational staff throughout the process.
Mitzvah Scholars usually involves a once-per-month commitment during the school year in 5th and 6th grades. About six times per year, these sessions take place from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Shabbat morning at Ohr Kodesh. Parents are encouraged to attend, as our classes are enriched when students and parents are in dialogue with each other.
Three additional times per year, we will have a Yom Iyun ("Day of Interest") program. These Yom Iyun sessions include one Shabbat after services through Havdalah, a Friday night program for the whole family, and the third is a trip to either Philadelphia, New York, or Washington D.C. to explore Jewish history and culture in the area.
